Boyfriends Rating: A++
Well, I have seen this movie twice now. Just been a bit busy to write a review. I will say this, the movie is bad ass. Definitely worth seeing over and over. Possibly one of the best movies ever. It was just awesome.
Batman(Christian Bale again in his awesome portrayal) is back. He is teamed up with Lt. Gorden(Gary Oldman) and gains some help from the new District Attorney, Harvey Dent(Aaron Eckhart), to start cleaning up Gotham's streets. Together they start to make a great difference and deal blow after blow to the seedy underbelly of Gotham. That is, until Batman's Greatest Nemesis, The Joker(Heath Ledger), decides he wants to play his sick, twisted games with the city of Gotham. Pretty simple plot line. Most people know how this Batman story goes if they saw "Batman Begins". This is a darker batman than the regular comic book variety.
I must say again and again, this movie was amazing. Plenty of action sequences for you action lovers. Lots of suspense to keep you guessing what was going to happen next. And you will get a good chuckle out of some parts of it. The plot is held together really well. Not much for me to pick apart after I left the theatre. There were some things in it that I knew were coming due to me being familiar with Batman characters. I didn't walk out of there saying "I saw that coming". Always good in my books. There are a couple of misleading things where after watching it twice and thinking about it, that I think will be a good surprise if they make another. At first I was a little annoyed because that's not how it was supposed to be. But if you catch what I'm talking about, think about it. Its at the end of the movie. I liked just about everything about this movie. Everything was well done throughout.
Bale does it again as Batman. This is my new favorite Batman. He does a stand up job with this role. Maggie Gyllenhaal takes over the role of Rachel Dawes in this one. She may not look like Holmes, but she did a good job taking over the role. Eckhart does a great job as Harvey Dent. Great role for him to play. Oldman plays a pretty decent Gordan again. Morgan Freeman does a great job again as Lucious Fox again. I love how he portrays Fox. Wonderful. You don't think I left out Heath Ledger as Joker do you? Of course not, I saved the best for last. He did a beautiful job as the joker. He made the role his own. After watching the movie, I understand why he couldn't sleep and ended up having problems with himself. He absorbed himself in the Joker. He became the Joker through and through. He will receive awards for this role, and be praised for years to come for his portrayal. Just wow.
All in all, One of the best comic book based movies I have ever seen. Like I have said, one of the best movies ever. The visuals and action sequences are outstanding. The characters hold together really well and you don't get bored waiting for something to happen. Not a movie for most kiddo's but definitely a must see. If you only see one movie this year, see this one. Word of warning though, use the restroom and smoke if you need to before you get there. This flick is over the 2 1/2 hour mark. Its a long one, so sit back, relax, and enjoy. I promise you will. This is my must see pick of the summer.

Review of "Hellboy II"
Boyfriends Rating: A
I decided to see the midnight showing of Hellboy II tonight. Most sequels do not out-perform the original. This one did just that. The plot and story are very interesting. Helboy is back for round 2 this time. This time the Nazi's are not the enemy and they aren't trying to make him destroy the earth. There is a story of a pact between the supernatural realm and humans from long ago. This pact puts an army of unstoppable creatures to rest. One of the supernaturals exiles himself to only return when the time is right. He plans to awaken this army and bring hell to humankind once again and its Hellboy's job to stop him along with his expanding team at the Beaurea of Paranormal Research and Defense-Hellboy's firey girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), big blue fish guy Abe (Doug Jones) and new boss/superior ectoplasmic german Johann(voiced by Seth MacFarlane). They travel between the fantasy and surface worlds to try to stop this army from being awakened.
Pretty basic plot right? Dont count on it. I just gave a generalized version. I dont want to give much away. It has several twists and turns that pop up and surprise you along the way. The visuals and character portrayels are very good in this movie. Action scenes were there but I thought to be not enough. I was happy with the way the scenes were done, but I wanted more fighting. You get your comical relief from Hellboy in this one as well. Gotta love the guy and his sense of humor. There wasnt much that I picked apart with this one. Of course I did notice a few things. But with supernatural/fantasy creatures, what is realistic Haha? Hellboy gets more out in the open this time, not so good at discreet is he?. This movie has a lot in common with Hancock. Superhero that isnt always clean about the way he does his job, but he gets it done. The public fears and hates him just the same. Save humanity and they still hate you. Geeze, why do it? Well that happens to be a small internal conflict with Hellboy in this one. It didnt seem like he contemplated giving up on them too much, but you can tell he does. The big lug has a heart Haha. The story gets you pretty enveloped with it. There was plenty of good acting to fill in the parts between the action scenes. Dont be expecting an all out brawl movie with this one. But do Enjoy it.
Rob did a great job with Hellboy again. Selma does a decent job at Liz this time around. She is pretty much just backup to Hellboy, but she pulled off what her character called for. Doug and Seth do good jobs with their roles in this movie. Luke Goss does a great job as the main antagonist in the typical martial arts style that is normally portrayed by Jet Li, but fit his role very well. I thought he did splendid as the villian of this movie.
This is a good SciFi film. Wonderful visuals throughout with very good acting and comedy inbetween the action scenes. Definitely a good flick. Not as many fight scenes as I would have liked, but what I got was good. No complaints otherwise. Like I said, I laughed a good bit during the whole thing. Check it out if you liked the first one, you should like this one more. Well worth it IMO.

Review of "Hancock"
Boyfriend's Grade:A+
This was not your typical super hero movie. I enjoyed the plot a lot. John Hancock(Will Smith) is a homeless man living in Los Angeles who happens to have Superman like powers. He is just a flat out jerk and an alcoholic. He may get the job done with his super powers, but causes countless damage to the city as he does it. He could care less what other people think of him until the day he saves the life of Ray Embrey(Jason Bateman) a PR exec, and realizes that he may have a soft side after all. The people finally get fed up with his antics and demand a solution. Ray and Hancock set off to prove that he is not the lost cause that the public is viewing him as, which will be one hefty challenge as Mary (Charlize Theron), Ray's wife, insists that Hancock is a lost cause.
So that is the basic overview of the movie. This movie showed me why it has posted $62.6 Million at the box office so far. It has some pretty strong action scenes. The visuals aren't half bad either. This movie had its comical side as well. I found myself and the theatre laughing uncontrollably at times. That was a good percentage of the time. This movie is full of the typical Will Smith style comedy. This movie is mostly about the action, and you get the comedy as a nice bonus. When the movie started, I was wondering how a homeless super hero was going to progress as the movie went. The story flowed quite well, I thought. It had a very interesting plot twist near the end. I could have seen that coming if not for being engrossed in the movie. Which I was very happy about. This movie is left open for a possible sequel with some unanswered questions. But I do not see one coming, it pulled together really well. I do not feel like I am missing part of the story after the credits rolled with this flick. I walked out saying "That was a bad ass movie". It was not hyped that much, which made it out perform what had been hyped. I could go see that movie again in theatres and will definitely buy it on Dvd.
Will Smith fits this roll almost to a T. It was like it was designed for him. He does such a good job with the jerk on the surface, heart on the inside character. No one could have played Hancock any better. Cudos to Jason Bateman for the roll of Ray. Ray is somewhat dumbfounded in his attempt to make the world a better place, but he just cant get it done. When Hancock comes along, all of Rays thinking juices get flowing and he gets the job done. Charlize Theron, also did a commendable job as Ray's wife. I liked her character a lot as well. 3 stand up performances from the cast in this movie.
Its a Super Hero movie, so of course there will be some very unrealistic things. They are easy to let slide. I only noticed a couple of things that were way out there. Well other than the Supermanlike abilities. Which is very good. It could be a decent movie for the almost 13 crowd. Just depends on how much cursing they are used to hearing. I think I only heard Asshole, Ass, damn, and hell. Only heard Fuck one time near the beginning of the movie.
So all in all a very good action flick with a decent amount of comedy thrown in. Very strong action sequences, good visual effects when they were needed. Interesting plot that pulls together very well at the end. You wont feel bad for dropping the money to see it.

Review of "Wanted"
Boyfriend's Grade: A-
The movie has a pretty basic premise. But it is very interesting Wes(James McAvoy) is just your average joe stuck in a shitty job and hates his boring ass life. That all changes the day he meets Fox(Angelina Jolie) who informs him of the death of his father, who happens to be a super assassin, and invites him to join the 'Fraternity'(a clan of assassins). Sloan (Morgan Freeman) along with the rest of the Fraternity train him to be able to unlock his hidden powers in order to avenge his fathers death. Wes learns that the Fraternity lives by an unbreakable code to carry out death orders given by fate its self. As the movie goes along, Wes realizes that there is more than meets the eye to the Fraternity.
Now that's the basic overview. Pretty good plot and story line. There are really no hand to hand combat scenes in the movie except one. I would have liked to see more. Most of the action sequences are gun fights and driving scenes. They are very intense and vivid. The visual effects in this movie make it worth going to see. I happen to love graphics and visuals in movies. The only problem with the movie is that a lot of it is really way out there and hard to believe. James McAvoy does a great job in this lead role. Angelina Jolie also makes a great teacher and mentor to James' character. Not her best role, but she did a good job. I didn't see James as an action movie star, but he pulled it off rather well. There were some plot twists that I didn't expect, but made the deception of the movie come together rather well. I saw some of it coming, but I usually do. The major conflict twist I did not see. I was too caught up in the action sequences. I got about 90% of the ending correct, but did not expect the very last part. I do not see a sequel in the future. It does leave you wanting something though. That is my only complaint. It left me wanting more.
I did not go see this movie because Angelina Jolie was in it. I'm not a big fan of hers. She did make very good use of her facial expressions in this movie. She may not have said much, but her expressions said a lot. Morgan Freeman does a wonderful job of making the character his own as usual. A lot of the other characters in the movie were not US born. But their small roles played a big part. Bravo to them.
Now over all, This movie is about half action, and stunning visual effects. If you like a visually pleasing action movie that makes you think a little bit, this movie is for you. As long as you can get passed the lack of realism of much of the action, you are good to go. I give this movie an A-
They also need to include a don't try this at home warning for some of the things they do in this movie. I know some idiot is going to try one of the gun tricks and kill someone.

So here is why I started this
First post on my new blog. I always like to voice my opinion about different things. I love movies. I will do quite a bit of them on here since I will be without my girlfriend for quite a while. But that will only be part of what I review. I will review restaurants, food items, stores, electronics, and pretty much anything I happen to come across.
Im gonna be bored around here, so I will have a lot to write about. It might take me a while to get a lot of content on here, but it will get there. Add me to your blogrolls if you like what I post and give me some free advertising. Also if you would like to email me, the email is boyfriendsreviews@gmail.com Send me an email there if you would like me to add you to my blogroll.
